Oracle Simphony and Opera Double-Posting
1. Network Failure
Double-posting typically occurs due to network interruptions
or intermittent connectivity issues on workstations. When a check is
transmitted, the interface between Simphony and OPERA may be disrupted.
The check is cancelled and remains open in Simphony, even
though it has already been recorded in OPERA. Once the network connection is
restored, the check is resent, resulting in duplication.
Recommended Solutions
1. Stabilize Network Connectivity
- Engage the local IT team or Internet Service Provider (ISP) to verify and stabilize the network connection at the property.
2. Check Network Configuration
Follow these steps to ensure your network adapter is not set to sleep or power-saving mode:
- Open Control Panel on your Windows system.
- Navigate to Network and Sharing Center.
- Click Change adapter settings from the left-hand menu.
- Right-click your active network adapter and select Properties.
- Click Configure next to the adapter name.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck all options related to power saving (e.g., “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”).
- Click OK to apply changes.
2. Validate EMC Settings
To ensure correct configuration of the EMC for the Opera Interface, follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to the Interface Settings
- Go to Enterprise → Setup → Interfaces → Opera Interface.
2. General Tab Configuration
- Timeout Frequency: Set to a minimum of 60 seconds.
- Ping Frequency: Set to 0 seconds.
3. Options Tab Configuration
- Verify that Option 8: “Enable Offline Posting” is not enabled.
- (This ensures all transactions are processed in real time and prevents data synchronization issues.)
3. Opera Interface Configuration
To configure the Opera Interface on the Opera IFC Server, follow the steps below.
1. Access the Micros Simphony IFC Application
- Log in to the Opera IFC Server using an account with administrative rights.
- Open the Micros Simphony IFC (M87POS_SPH - Simphony POS) application.
2. Locate the Double Posting Size Parameter
- Navigate to the Configuration or Settings section of the application.
- Locate the parameter named Double Posting Size.
3. Update the Double Posting Size Value
- Change the Double Posting Size parameter from 0 to 2.
o A value of 0 means there is no restriction, allowing Opera to accept any number of duplicate postings.
o Setting it to 2 means Opera will only allow the original transaction and will reject any additional duplicates beyond the first one.
o This setting helps to reduce the risk of multiple duplicate postings.
4. Save and Apply the Configuration
- Click Apply or Save to confirm the changes.
- Restart the Simphony IFC service for the new configuration to take effect.
5. Verify the Updated Setting
- After restarting, reopen the Micros Simphony IFC application.
- Confirm that the Double Posting Size parameter is set to 2.
